Air Quality Monitoring
Phase 2 Year 3 dredging operations began on April 29, 2013. Monitoring is conducted daily for river operations and at the Processing Facility during the dredging season. View air quality monitoring on the Quality of Life Monitoring Interactive Map. For Phase 2 air quality data, click on the calendar below. Phase 1 data is available by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

Legend:
Typical Operations: Daily total PCBs under the standard.
Exceedance Level: Daily total PCBs exceed standard.
| Pollutant | Performance Standard | Monitoring Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| PCBs (Residential Areas) | 0.11 micrograms per cubic meter | Continuous Monitoring Daily (24-hour) basis |
| PCBs (Commercial/Industrial Areas) | 0.26 micrograms per cubic meter | Continuous Monitoring Daily (24-hour) basis |
Goal of the Standard
The goal of the air quality performance standard is to minimize the effects on people’s health and the environment from air emissions during the cleanup. Since PCBs are the primary pollutant in the sediment the performance standard, displayed at right, sets the limits for PCBs in the air.
How the Standard Works
- Regular monitoring at multiple locations
- Taking action to minimize air quality effects
- Reporting and notification by the cleanup team to EPA
