Odor Monitoring
Phase 2 Year 3 dredging operations began on April 29, 2013. Monitoring is conducted daily for river operations and at the Processing Facility during the dredging season. View odor monitoring on the Quality of Life Monitoring Interactive Map. For Phase 2 odor monitoring data, click on the calendar below. Phase 1 data is available by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

Legend:
Typical Operations: No presence of uncomfortable odors.
Control Level: Presence of uncomfortable odors was noted by the remedial action team or by the public.
Exceedance Level: Exceedance of the hydrogen sulfide standard (0.01 parts per million [14 µg/m3], one hour average) OR frequent, recurrent odor complaints related to project activities.
Goal of the Standard
The performance standard for odor requires the control of the sources of potential odors and ongoing follow-up of any odor complaints. In the event of a complaint, monitoring of hydrogen sulfide is required. The performance standard sets the following limits:
| Pollutant | Performance Standard |
|---|---|
| Hydrogen sulfide | 0.01 parts per million |
How Does the Standard Work?
- Regular observations
- Receive and investigate complaints
- Take action to minimize odors
- Reporting and notification by the cleanup team to EPA
